High-growth, high-demand jobs are out there.
There’s a new generation in town: Generation Z. Born after 1995, you’re just about to finish high school or maybe you recently graduated. You’re hoping to avoid college debt, so you’re looking for a pipeline to a meaningful career without spending a ton of money on tuition.
Our advice? Check out Northwest State Community College.
This advice isn’t just for young Gen Z-ers. Baby Boomers looking to switch careers, Millennials looking to get ahead, Generations X and Y transitioning career or job paths – the pipeline has room for everyone.
By 2020, over 65% of jobs will require education or training beyond high school, according to research from the Georgetown Public Policy Institute.
Degree and certificate programs at Northwest State are designed based on the ongoing demands of area employers.
“With the tremendous need today and in the future, employers are searching for skilled employees,” said Mari Yoder, NSCC vice president for institutional advancement. “Our faculty bring real-world work experience to the classroom to directly benefit students and prepare them for immediate entry into the workplace.”
Examples of high-demand careers and average annual wages are listed below. The electrical and electronic careers rank high, of course, but some of the other jobs may surprise you. First Line Production Supervisors and Operating Workers, Computer Support Specialists, HVAC Mechanics and Installers, Licensed Practical and Vocational Nurses, and Medical Records and Health Information Technicians are just a few great examples of high-growth careers.
Dr. Dan Burklo, NSCC dean of math, science and engineering technologies, has leading employers waiting in line in our region, ready to hire NSCC graduates of engineering technologies programs. “The employer demand is there for our graduates,” Burklo states. “Men and women with a strong educational foundation should be able to find a good-paying job.”
Dr. Michael Wolfe, NSCC dean of business, sees great opportunity in a two-year degree. “With many of our associate degree programs, graduates can enter the workforce immediately and have very successful and lucrative careers,” Wolfe said.
“The nursing program at Northwest State is in the top 2% in the state of Ohio, and the top 4% nationwide,” says Lori Bird, NSCC dean of nursing. “Nursing is a challenging degree program, but those who graduate are truly successful, and will make a lasting impact in the medical field.”
The good news is that you can prepare for these careers at Northwest State, where you’ll find more affordable tuition than at four-year or for-profit schools. In some cases, you can earn an industry-recognized credential in as little as 16 weeks. At Northwest State, some of the career studies certificates can also set you on the path to a two-year associate degree.
NSCC offers programs in a variety of the high-demand, high-growth fields. Some, like the health professions, have prerequisites and additional admission procedures. Many, like electrical, IT support, HVAC and Office Administration programs, are open-enrollment.
If you want to get ready for a high-growth, in-demand career, contact Northwest State to see how you can get started.
